Chester City Wound Up

Chester City Football Club has been wound up at the High Court in London over an unpaid tax bill.

The Blues owed more than £26,000 in tax to Her Majesty's Revenue and Customs and appeared at the High Court on Wednesday morning.

The winding up order follows the expulsion from the Football Conference.

City Fans United, the main club supporters group have now vowed to form a new team which could still play at the Deva Stadium because the ground is rented from the Council.

Spokesman Jeff Banks told Heart:

"It's a sad but inevitable day seeing the football club close after 125 years but we have put plans in place to make sure football continues in our historic city.

"We've had some great meetings with the council with regard to the lease on the football ground and we want to make sure we are doing everything above board."
