Over 13,000 people are raring to run for a good cause ahead of the Brighton Marathon this Sunday.
Whether going for gold in the full 26.2 mile marathon, admiring the atmosphere in the BM10K, or showing support from the stands at one of the many food trucks or bars at the event village, we have all the information you need below.
Route – The main marathon begins at the later time of 9:45am at Preston Park, showcasing central Brighton before following the seafront to the Marina. Runners will then loop around towards Hove before finishing at the event village on Madeira Drive close to Brighton Pier.
Runners taking part in the BM10K start at the earlier time of 9am at Preston Park, and will follow York Place and The Level around before a beachside bound to the finish also at the event village on Madeira Drive.
Road closures – We strongly advise against travelling into the city centre on the morning of the event as there will be road closures in place and parking restrictions. If you require detailed information about the road closures that will be in place during the 2019 Brighton Marathon Weekend, you can now view the official guide here.
Parking - Parking will not be available in the immediate vicinity of all sites due to road closures so we advise any spectators to walk from Brighton Station or park outside of the road closures and walk in. Spectator walking routes and crossing points will be available in the Event Programme and on the website closer to the event. Brighton Marathon offer a Park and Ride service on Race Day however, this has now sold out.
Buses – Bus services will be subject to diversion on Race Sunday, so please do continue to check the Brighton & Hove Bus Company website for the most up to date travel information and full timetables.
Trains – Brighton mainline station is only a 15 minute walk from the start, while London Road station is 10 minutes. Preston Park rail station will be closed on Race Day due to capacity issues.
Taxi - If you are staying in or near Brighton taxis WILL be able to collect you and drop you close by to the Start area on Race morning. There will be road closures in place but routes are still possible across the city avoiding these closures and/or ahead of them being actioned.
By Bicycle - If you are cycling to the event on Race Day, there are bike stands by the café in the centre of Preston Park where you will be able to lock your bike up. There is also a bike storage system at Brighton Station called (n+1) which has storage for over 500 cycles. You will need a key card from Southern Railway to use this – more info is available here: http://www.nplusone.bike/cycles#storage
Good luck to everyone running! For more information check out the Brighton Marathon website.
