Police are investigating after thieves broke into a cash machine in Southampton and tried unsuccessfully to steal the contents.
It happened sometime between 10pm on Thursday 9th May and 4.30am on Friday 10th May at the ATM machine outside the Co-op store at Thornhill Service Station, Thornhill Park Road.
The thieves had pulled crates in front of the ATM to try and obscure the view of anyone driving along the road. They have then smashed their way into the machine pulling out various components as they did so. However they were unable to
reach the cash inside and eventually gave up leaving empty handed.
Officers are appealing for any witnesses who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the area or has any information about the attempted theft to contact them.
They are asked to call PC Sarah Brazier at Bitterne Police Station on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
