Ilminster: A303 Closed After Crash

Police are appealing for witnesses following a serious road traffic collision that has shut the A303 near Ilminster.

A flat bed truck travelling westbound was in collision with a Vauxhall Corsa travelling in the opposite direction and then two further cars.

The driver of the truck - a man - has been seriously injured. A man who was in the Corsa also suffered serious injuries.

The road has been closed between Southfield Roundabout in Ilminster and the A356 junction in South Petherton to enable a full examination of the scene. Police say this could take several hours and motorists are being urged to avoid the area.

Anyone who was travelling along the A303 at the time of the incident, and may have information to help the enquiries, is asked to contact the collision investigation unit on the force number 101.

Lorries and heavy traffic to follow A358, A30 via Crewkerne and A356 near Norton sub Hamdon.

Cars and light traffic advised to divert locally along the B3168.
