After a whirlwind romance, they wed in June 2007 in Las Vegas, renewing their vows a year later in Egypt.
In March 2017, it was repotted that Mel had filed for divorce, citing ‘irreconcilable differences’, asking for joint legal custody of their daughter Madison, and requesting spousal support for Stephen be stopped.

Mel has three daughters, Phoenix Chi Gulzar (b. 19.2.99); Angel Iris Murphy Brown (b. 3.4.07); and Madison Brown Belafonte (b. 2.9.11).
