A man's been arrested on suspicion of sending racist Tweets to two Northampton Town footballers.
A 25 year old man was arrested in the Gloucestershire area on the evening of Wednesday 8 May 2013.
It comes after abusive tweets were sent to Cobblers striker Adebayo Akinfenwa and defender Clarke Carlisle, who is also chairman of the Professional Footballers Association.
Inspector Phil Kings of Northamptonshire Police said a man had been arrested on suspicion of committing a racially aggravated offence as part of a joint investigation with Gloucestershire Police.
The man remained in police custody and would be questioned by officers, he added.
The 25 year old was later released on bail, and ordered to report back to Cheltenham Police Station on Wednesday 22 May 2013, pending further enquiries.
The arrest came four days after Northampton Town beat Cheltenham Town 1-0 in the second leg of their League Two Play-Off Semi Final, to progress to the final at Wembley, 2-0 on aggregate.
The Cobblers will play Bradford City on Saturday 18 May 2013 for a place in League One, football's third tier.
