Police have arrested a driver after a 15-year-old boy was killed when he was hit by a car.

The family of Ryan Marshall, from Andover in Hampshire, have paid tribute to him as a "caring" and "cheeky" boy, who was "loved so much".

He was taken to hospital after a Ford Fiesta crashed at about 6pm on Saturday.

Ryan died from his injuries on Sunday.

The driver of the vehicle involved, a 29-year-old woman also from Andover, has been arrested on suspicion of driving while unfit through drugs.

She has been released from custody but remains under investigation pending further enquiries, Hampshire Constabulary said.

Ryan's mother released a statement via police, in which she described her son as "a lovely, caring boy with a cheeky smile and wicked, cheeky sense of humour".

She added: "He was loved so much by me, the family and everyone who knew him. We are all very heartbroken that he was taken from us."

A police spokesman said: "Specialist officers are supporting Ryan's family as detectives from the Serious Collision Investigation Unit continue to investigate the incident.

"We are still appealing for any witnesses to please come forward and speak to police."

Anyone with information or footage of the crash is urged to contact Hampshire and Isle of Wight Constabulary or call 101.
