A woman and her six-year-old daughter who have died in a crash in East Ayrshire have been named.

Police Scotland said the victims were 32-year-old Rebecca Hill and her daughter Arianna Aliu following the single-vehicle collision.

Emergency crews were alerted to the incident on the A76 near its junction with the B713 - between Catrine and Auchinleck - at around 5pm on Tuesday.

Earlier, police said Rebecca, the passenger in the white Volkswagen Passat, was pronounced dead at the scene.

Ms Hill who was driving the car was taken to Glasgow's Queen Elizabeth University Hospital, where she died a short time later.

The force said relatives of the victims have been made aware and are being supported by specialist officers.

The road was closed for around seven hours for investigation works.

"We would like to thank the members of the public that stopped to help and made the call to the emergency services.

"Extensive enquiries are ongoing to establish what has happened and we are appealing to anyone who witnessed the crash, or may have been in the area at the time, to contact us.

"I am also keen to speak to anyone who have may dashcam footage showing the Passat prior to the crash."
