Why swap now?
In a statement confirming their "driver rotation" on Thursday morning, Red Bull insisted the move is "a purely sporting decision" to help them in their bid to reclaim the constructors' title they lost to McLaren last year.
Red Bull team principal Christian Horner also cited a "duty of care" to Lawson and claimed the move will help to "protect and develop" him after two difficult races in the RB21.
