Kent: Storm Latest

Forecasters are warning winds of up to 70 mph will hit Kent late Sunday night and early Monday morning.

This Evening and Tonight:

Heavy and persistent rain will quickly spread to all parts during the evening, coupled with strengthening winds. Winds strengthening further around midnight, with potentially damaging gusts and squally showers. Dangerous waves are likely to develop on coasts. Minimum temperature 11 °C.

Monday:

Exceptionally windy for a time during the early morning, with possible damaging gusts and squally rain showers. Winds easing to strong westerly during the morning with sunshine and showers. Maximum temperature 17 °C.

The peak gusts in Dover are predicted to be at 0600 at 71mph, for Whitstable it is 64mph

southeastern trainNetwork Rail has advised that due to the risk of fallen trees and branches onto railway lines, damage to equipment and localised flooding we will not be able to run a train service until it is safe to do so. Network Rail will be out across the network at first light to clear the track and repair any damage as quickly as possible.

We are monitoring the situation closely and we expect to run a reduced service tomorrow. At this stage it is likely that these services won’t commence operating until around 9am. Southeastern

Port of DoverIn Dover sea conditions in the Channel are rough with a strong West South-Westerly gale. Force 9 and moderate visibility.

The ferry terminal is subject to delays due to adverse weather conditions, and space available.

Due to adverse weather which is anticipated over the weekend, passengers are advised to contact their shipping operator for any further information and updates.

Members of the public planning to travel abroad are advised to check for any delays with their travel operator.

A number of bridges around the county may also have to be closed due to the strong cross winds.

Kent fire and rescueResidents are being reminded that during a storm, the emergency services will be very busy so only call for immediate assistance if there is a risk to life or serious property or environmental damage.

General Advice

Emergency Services and Local Authorities advice you not to travel at peak times, to stay away from the coastline, to be prepared for power cuts and to look around your gardens to see if you can move anything that might be blown away or into windows. Put cars in garages or keep them away from buildings.

It is likely services like postal deliveries and refuse collections will be affected and road conditions will be difficult affecting public transport as well as private vehicles.
