Experience a spectacular light projection over four nights. Each light projection, called ‘Light up the Shire’, will last three and half minutes and will see the historic Shire Hall transformed by awe-inspiring projections set to music. This visual extravaganza, commissioned by Chelmsford City Council, is being created by Event Projection Ltd and Limbic Cinema, with a soundtrack produced by us here Heart!

7. The German Market at Meadow Croft Garden Centre, Wickford - until Christmas Eve
There's nothing quite as festive as a traditional German Christmas Market and this one has stalls galore and delicious treats including authentic Bratwurst, Currywurst and Sauerkraut, as well as German beers, Gluhwein, Pretzels and Schokokusse. Delicious!

9. Santa Specials at Epping Ongar Railway - throughout December
See Santa on his special train with presents for good boys and girls and mince pies and mulled win for mum and dad. Santa Specials run on the 3, 4, 10, 11, 17, 18, 21, 22, 23 and 24 December. All trains run from North Weald, with connecting bus services from Ongar and Epping included in the fares if needed.

10. Abberton Reservoir's Winter Wonderland - 17th and 18th December
Visit santa will be in his magical grotto as well a Christmas trail and craft for the children. Lots of stalls to browse and get those extra special Christmas gifts with a difference.

11. Southend 5 Mile Rudolph Run - The Esplanade, Southend-on-Sea - Sunday 11th December
The hugely popular Southend Rudolph Run returns for the sixth year in 2016. Its the perfect way to celebrate the start of the Christmas holiday season. Come dressed in appropriate Christmas dress to make Santa really proud.
