A life size bronze sculpture of a polar bear skeleton has been stolen from the front lawn of a property in West Hatch,Tisbury.
It happened sometime overnight between Monday 24th and Tuesday 25th June.
The sculpture is valued at over £15,000 and was created by a local sculptor for the “Polar Bear Project” which is an International Project highlighting the plight of the diminishing number of Polar bears in the wild.
The sculpture is not free standing and was secured with a metal structure.
PC Matt Price of the Crime Management Unit said:
"Due to the size and weight of the sculpture we suspect that a low loader with a Hi-Ab would be required to pull the sculpture from its moorings. With that in mind, I would like to hear from anyone who saw large vehicles in the area or any suspicious activity. It is often the case that items are stolen to be sold as scrap metal and we need the help of the public to locate the sculpture and identify those responsible quickly."
Anyone with information is asked to contact PC Matt Price on 101. Alternatively contact Crimestoppers 0800 555 111 where details may be left anonymously if preferred.
