Battle Scarecrow Festival

The Annual Battle Scarecrow Festival runs from 5th - 25th July. There's more than 60 entries and a trail has been published. This is how Visit England describe the spectacle

Ever since 1066, Battle has been no stranger to invading armies. The latest to occupy strategic positions in and around the town centre is this friendly troop of straw-stuffed visitors. This trail with a difference of over 40 larger than life scarecrows leads you around the historic town of Battle to discover secret places you never knew existed in this historic town.

Organised by the voluntary organisation, Beautiful Battle, this competition has community involvement at its very core. The theme for 2010 is ˜Market Day™, very fitting for this historic market town in the heart of 1066 Country, East Sussex. The whole town takes part, constructing the scarecrows from recycled materials.

Visitors to the festival are invited to join the local community in voting for their favourite scarecrow and to be present when the winners are announced at the Battle in Bloom awards in late July.

The Scarecrow Festival makes a great excuse for all the family to enjoy an entertaining day out in Battle.
