Digger Driver Dies

The driver of a digger has died after a crash on the A421 near Bedford involving a lorry.
It happened on the eastbound carriageway near Great Barford at 12.15pm on Tuesday 7 May 2013.
The 66 year old driver of the Caterpillar digger was declared dead at the scene.
The driver of the Scania HGV, a 50 year old man, was taken to Bedford Hospital South Wing with slight injuries.
Emergency services attended the scene and the road was closed east bound until 6.45pm while a full collision investigation was undertaken.
Investigating the cause of the collision, PC Gareth Rees, of the Bedfordshire and Hertfordshire Collision Investigation Unit, is urging anyone who witnessed the collision to contact the police if they have not yet done so.
